Saturday students please note that some of you will have the pleasure of a lesson on the 15th of September with my friend and music therapy/teaching colleague Vannie who is very keen to meet you all! I would like to take the opportunity to encourage all students to continue enjoying music in the time I am away with some regular practice, listening to music, and perhaps a fun creative project or two!

I have been busy this year undertaking study with a Bachelor of Dementia Care which is proving very interesting and informative for my music therapy work in aged care. I have also engaged in Professional Development for the studio through membership of Tim Topham's Inner Circle which provides a wealth of information for piano teachers who enjoy fostering creativity in learning. There are webinars on many topics, and you can access his interesting podcasts and interviews with special guests. He also has Facebook live feeds on a variety of topics which may be of interest. Tim is the curator of the Series 4 AMEB Piano for Leisure series released earlier this year, spending over a year sourcing and assessing music for its relevance for meeting syllabus requirements whilst motivating students to branch out and try many new pieces, including those by contemporary and Australian composers. I know many students (and myself too) have enjoyed learning these new pieces!

CONCERT NEWS:

The end of semester 1 concert was a wonderful success, with some students performing for the very first time. However, if other pieces aren't also learnt during the preparation for exams, the overall goal of learning music is hindered. And of course, they are probably not enjoying the endless repetition of those 3 pieces!
I have created a cycle (below) that I feel sums up how learning music works: regular Practice (meaning minimum 5 days a week!) leads to Achievement of skills; providing the Progress that then Motivates you to Practice more! And so on..

This being so, for those who wish to sit exams, a commitment to thorough preparation of all areas is required in order to attain a good result - so be sure to include scale practice, sight-reading, theory, and listening to professional recordings as part of your daily music practice!

Term 4, 2016 Newsletter

http://www.musicalkeys.com.au/latest-news/term-4-2016-newsletter

http://www.musicalkeys.com.au/latest-news/term-4-2016-newsletter#comments

Uncategorized

I hope you all had an enjoyable term break!
